I'll try to condense this. Baby Nyshie started running a fever a week ago Sunday, was congested and appeared to have her sister's cold. She continued to get worse throughout the week, running fevers of 105 and her appetite diminished. After three trips to the pediatrician, and one chest x-ray, she had some lab work done Saturday afternoon at the hospital. Her white blood count was extremly high and she was anemic. She was admitted Saturday night and we are still in the hospital. The blood tests from yesterday morning showed her white count is still extremely high, anemia cont., and increased platelets. Lots of tests yesterday (all horrible for her and us), which ruled out Influenza, RSV, and mono (seemed weird), but still nothing conclusive. The doc started her on oral antibiotics yesterday because her CBC was no longer looking viral but instead looking like there was a secondary bacterial infection. She continued to spike fevers last night and today hit 105 again, one hour after Motrin. The doc ordered an IV, CBC, another blood culture, and U/A. She is now receiving IV fluids, they will cont. the oral antibiotic and will start IV antibiotics shortly. She did have a second chest x-ray done and it showed a mild pneumonia but nothing that matched her CBC numbers. She also had an echo of her heart done yesterday to rule some things out and we are waiting for the cardiologist's report on that. Will follow up when I have more info.
Please send love.
Thank you,
Maggie
